When You Want to go Far AND Fast

When I got our puppy, Owen, people asked me how I felt about having to take him for a walk every day.

My response is that I don't have to take him; I get to take him.

Walking with Owen is amazing.

Because he's got four feet and boundless puppy energy, he can cover ground much faster than I can.

When we walk together, I walk much faster than I would on my own. His agility and energy propel me above my normal relaxed pace.

We also walk farther together than I might on my own, even on the days when my energy is lagging a little. His excitement to explore spills over onto me and I find myself feeling great about the number of steps I get in.

One of the best benefits is that I'm always in control. I can slow the pace or shorten the distance whenever I need to.

There's an African proverb that says, if you want to go fast, go alone; If you want to go far, go together.

I'd like to add: if you want to go far AND fast, get a dog.
