
Not Now: A Cure for Overwhelmed Brains
Here's the thing about a lot of entrepreneurs... we are idea junkies.
Yes, I am, too.
It's exciting to think up new ways to help clients, new products, and new projects to dive into.
But new is usually the last thing you should work on.
I have a note on my whiteboard that says Better→ More → New
That's the pattern for growth. Make what you have better, then do more of it. When you can't do either of those any longer, then do something new.
My secret weapon for scratching the new ideas itch is a Not Now list.
It's the place I dump all of the "amazing" ideas that flood my brain each day.
It used to be a piece of paper that lived on my desktop. Now, it's a list in Asana, but it works the same way.
The list helps because it gives me a place to brain dump the ideas.
I know the ideas aren't lost, but I don't have to act on them because they aren't banging around inside my skull, begging for attention. They are safely on my trusty Not Now list.
What's interesting is that, when I go back to the list, the ideas that, at the time, seemed brilliant often seem stupid after a bit of reflection. Fully 95% of them don't stand the test of the pause, and I'm grateful I didn't waste time on them.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all your ideas, drop them on a Not Now list and get back to improving just one product.
