My Three Secret Weapons For Growing My Business
Unlike other people, who get the same paycheck every two weeks, you are entirely responsible for the amount of money that hits your bank account. There is no boss who doles out a salary – you have to earn every penny, every day.
While that thought can be empowering, it can also lead to chronic insecurity.
Even when your bank account is full, you worry about the next sale. What if this is it? What if everything goes to hell from here on out?
If these are the kinds of thoughts that go through your head, you’re not alone. It happens to all of us.
Yes, it even happens to me now and then.
So, how do you keep from getting paralyzed by fear and uncertainty? How do you not react by putting in more hours and more work, neglecting your family and friends?
I use three simple tools that keep me focused on the right actions each day.
Simple Success Plan – you have likely heard me talk about how powerful this one-page plan is for my business and my clients. This one-sheet of paper reminds me daily of the essential areas of my business that need attention so I can trust that I’m always doing the right thing at the right time. 3×5 Index Cards – I carry three, 3×5 index cards with me wherever I am in the world. On those cards, I have written three affirmations that keep me focused on my true desires. They program my mind to live as if my goals are already done, relaxing my reactionary lizard brain and allowing my higher-thinking cerebral cortex to operate clearly. Above is a screen shot of one of my cards.
Asana – my Simple Success Plan is my one-sheet big-picture tool. Asana is where I keep all the details organized that come out of the success planning process. I set up projects that align with my strategic quarterly projects and then layout my weekly tasks underneath them. My tasks show up on the right day for them to be accomplished and I never, ever worry about things falling through the cracks.
These three easy-to-use tools are the reason I can go on vacation and not worry about my business. They are the reason I can shut down at the end of a workday sleep well at night.
Give them a try yourself and let me know how they work for you.
