Joy vs Happiness

“Most of us wait our entire lives for the appearance of a mythical kind of happiness, all the while missing the potential joy that was everywhere around us.”

Greg Baer

Most people don’t understand the difference between joy and happiness.

Happiness is a feeling that is dependent upon some outside factor. Joy, on the other hand, is an emotion we feel for no apparent reason at all.

The weather, another's behavior or getting something you desire can all bring you happiness.

However, if the weather turns from sunny to rainy or your child behaves in a way you don't like or you can't get the shiny new object your happiness disappears.

People are full of joy just because they exist. The feeling of joy is not based on a person, place or thing, but rather an internal sense of well-being. Maybe, you’ve seen this in someone else when you find yourself asking “what in the world are they so happy about?”

How joyful you are directly impacts your ability to stay motivated and experience success. Joy brings about an sense of energy, zest and vitality that you need to keep moving forward toward your goals.

When you are joyful, you are naturally happy but it’s not because of external circumstances. It’s because of an internal sense of confidence, hope and optimism.

This week, if you find your mood dipping and your happiness slipping, ask yourself how you can find joy in the moment. Search deep to find something in yourself to feel good about and explore that feeling of joy.

Taking just a moment to refocus on joy can you back on track to feel motivated, excited and ready to win the day!
